Why Choose Eclipse Wellness for physical therapy in Sterling, VA?

I often get asked: what makes Eclipse Wellness the best physical therapy clinic in Northern Virginia? If you look at our Google Reviews, you will see a variety of answers, but I believe that they can be broken down into 2 main concepts: individualized attention and expert care. Part of being a business owner is reflecting on how and why your business works. I worked as a physical therapist for years and took note of many things that I wanted to be part of my business. Out of years of planning and now years of running a business, we have Eclipse Wellness in its current and best form. I want to highlight 4 key ideas that separate Eclipse Wellness from other physical therapy clinics in Northern Virginia.

The cornerstone to our physical therapy practice at Eclipse Wellness is that all evaluations and treatments are one on one. You are injured, probably in pain, and definitely wanting the undivided attention of your physical therapist. I know many excellent physical therapists who are unable to practice to their full potential because they are limited by their office structure. If they have multiple patients at a time (as many physical therapy clinics do), then they cannot possibly give you the best care. I have many friends who work as massage therapists and personal trainers, and they often see clients one-on-one. We as physical therapists have failed by settling for the idea that multiple patients at a time is the norm. A massage therapist seeing multiple clients at the same time would be laughable, but we do not hold physical therapists to the same level. You should expect more from your physical therapist and we try to uphold that higher standard at Eclipse Wellness.

Related to the one on one treatment philosophy that we employ is the fact that we are out of network with all health insurances. When it comes to your treatment and getting you better, we do not want too many cooks in the kitchen. Health insurances are run like any other business: for profit. The distraction of a potential limitation in the number of physical therapy visits due to insurance is not worth it in my opinion. Now, that does create a higher up front cost to the client. However, we have a sterling record of getting patients back to full health faster and with fewer visits than in-network physical therapy clinics. Your time is valuable and we can accomplish in one visit what it takes other offices 2-4 visits. By not working with health insurance companies, we are able to establish goals that are important to you, and we do everything we can to meet them. I have seen too many patients refused further PT visits because they could walk but not run, they could stand up from a chair but not squat, or they could do a push up but not throw a baseball. At Eclipse Wellness, we will do everything in our power to see you reach your goals because your treatment plan is only between us and you. There are no third parties, just direct patient care and results.

In conjunction with focusing on your individual goals, we pride ourselves on getting you back stronger and faster than you were before. Our clinic includes a squat rack with weight plates that exceed 200 pounds. I have worked in clinics that did not have anything heavier than a 5 pound dumbbell. Unsurprisingly, we also had many patients who seemed fine in the office, but once they got under a barbell, their knee pain returned. Similarly, at Eclipse Wellness we have a plyo wall to throw medicine balls, plyoballs, baseballs, softballs, and anything else that you might want. Gently tossing a 2 pound ball to a rebounder or a PT is not getting you ready to throw a baseball 200 feet on a field. We seek to take you from lying on the table in pain to back on the field dominating. Part of our ability to do that involves advanced education. I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, often considered the gold standard in personal training and fitness certifications. I also have experience coaching baseball up to the high school level. Physical therapy school does not prepare you to teach someone to deadlift 250 pounds or throw a fastball 90 miles an hour. I have sought that experience out elsewhere because it is of the utmost importance to me that I be able to serve my patients, athletes, and community to the best of my ability. I will take you where you need to go and possibly beyond.

My final core concept with Eclipse Wellness’s success with physical therapy involves advanced education. I am a board certified orthopedic specialist for physical therapy (OCS), meaning I have a certification that less than 10% of physical therapists have achieved. I have taken many courses as well as taught courses on advanced techniques such as dry needling. I was the first medical provider certified in OnBase University’s hitting and pitching certifications in the state of Virginia. My peers at the OnBase U courses were not other physical therapists in Northern Virginia. Instead, they were coaches and front office personnel from Major League Baseball. The standard of PT has remained stagnant for years. If you went to a "traditional" physical therapy office 10 years ago and today, it would not look much different. At Eclipse Wellness, we are constantly pushing ourselves to learn and grow. That allows us to give you the best treatment for your condition. Suffering from crippling back pain? Let’s try some cupping, scraping, and dry needling to decrease your pain and muscle guarding. Looking to get rid of some mild knee pain that is stopping you from squatting 225 pounds? Let’s look at your form, talk about your program, and perform a biomechanical assessment to see if you are missing anything. Looking to increase your pitching velocity from 85 to 90 miles per hour, but you are stuck with traditional coaching? Let’s perform an OnBase University assessment along with other analysis including a mechanical breakdown and find your weak points. You do not have to settle for subpar physical therapy any longer.

I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. I grew up less than 15 minutes from the site of Eclipse Wellness. I was the high school baseball player who hurt his elbow and went to physical therapy that did not actually help me. I love Northern Virginia and I love helping people get better. We opened Eclipse Wellness to bring the highest quality of physical therapy to Sterling and Northern Virginia.
